Plastic Materials Engineer (m/f) ()

DeSter, a global provider for onboard products & services, is looking for an experienced Plastics Materials Engineer (M/F), reporting to the Team Lead product engineering
Tasks & Responsibilities
• Lead the materials development and optimization projects as part of the product development pipeline
• Translate application requirements (design, functionality…) into right material mix taking into account product and manufacturing parameters
• Drive improvements and innovations (new materials, blends…) in line with raw materials strategy
• Define and roll-out materials strategy
• Ensure Quality Assurance (Supplier quality, materials testing, trail runs, problem resolution…)
• Follow-up on market trends , new materials, pricing, suppliers, technology;;;
• Contribute to market leadership by optimizing efficiency and margins through right material mix
• Lead the materials development and optimization projects as part of the product development pipeline

Profile:
• Master in engineering (Chemical, Materials, Polymers) or degree in Chemistry/Product development is required;
• Demonstrated experience (> 5yrs) within (technical) plastics applications in a manufacturing and customer driven environment;
• Seasoned professional in materials applications (eg appliances, household, technical products…) with broad genuine interest in thermoplastics (engineered plastics, fillers, additives…) and familiar with plastic processing techniques (injection moulding, thermoforming…); knowledge on other materials (aluminium, glass, chinaware, stainless steel…) is an asset;
• Sound technical background on thermoplastic materials (PS, PP…) properties and compound applications;
• Problem solving and analytical approach, combined with conceptual thinking for novel material introductions
• Cross-functional team player, with good project management skills;
• Practical and pragmatic approach , aiming for customer satisfaction;
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory; Dutch is considered an asset; other languages are a plus.

DeSter offers an attractive salary package commensurate experience, within a professional and innovation driven product development environment with international scope. The function is based in the Antwerp region with occasional international travel.
