Our client is a young private biotechnology company focused on creating technology to develop new healthcare products. They develop enzyme replacement therapies for lysosomal storage diseases as well as improved antibodies, using a glyco-engineered yeast production host and proprietary, purpose-built development tools.

The research group in Ghent consists of 35 people working in the field of yeast protein expression systems. The downstream processing team  holds 4 team members.

Responsibilities

This position is for a full-time Senior Scientist Downstream Processing, who is able to overlook protein purification manufacturing processes in a multiple product pilot facility.

We are looking for a highly motivated senior scientist, who is co-responsible for the purification protocols and can adequately report the results to the Head of CMC.

The following tasks are common in this line of work:

• Responsible for  technology transfer of downstream  processes to the CMO
• Responsible from tox to clinical supply
• Review of production documentation in close collaboration with the CMO
• (Planning and performing small-scale lab trials to investigate novel purification routes)
• (Scaling-up of research protocols to be applicable in large scale GMP manufacturing)
• Experience with large scale column chromatography, tangential flow filtration,  filtration
• Responsible for planning (personnel, raw materials,..) and execution of the Downstream process at the
• Key team member for process validation
• Work closely with fermentation team and quality team to ensure that the purification protocols and processes are compliant and ready for tech transfer to CMO
• Responsible for tech transfer and follow-up at CMO site where large scale production will be executed

 

• Master or PhD in Life Sciences, Biochemical engineering or Biological sciences
• Min. 8 years of relevant large scale protein purification experience, in a GMP environment
• Good knowledge of GMP
• Good problem-solving skills, team player, driven and creative
• Accurate , pro-active and Strong attention to detail
• result-oriented, able to work independently
• Developed communication skills
• Eligible to live and work in Belgium
• Willingness to travel in Europe (+30%)
